LED light sources require control gear for the power supply or for the transformation of current into light. LED drivers or control gear provide the appropriate power supply. The influence of the operating mode on the energy balance of the entire system must be taken into account. Due to the low efficiency losses, LED systems with constant current supply are particularly recommended. Constant-voltage LEDs, which are usually operated with 12 V or 24 V, are still widely used. However, there is also a tendency to use systems with 48 V operating voltage. Voltages below 50 V are referred to as safety extra-low voltage. The advantage of these designs is that no electrician is required for connection.

Modern drivers, also called LED transformers, have interfaces for dimming or for other intelligent control systems such as voice control, Bluetooth or remote control. Drivers can also be elegantly and flatly integrated into the luminaire housing. This is often found in LED retrofit luminaires. At ELEKTRA, these are the high-voltage luminaires LD 8001, LD 8010, LD 8015, LD 8021, LD 5000. These high-voltage luminaires have integrated drivers and are connected directly to 230 V via the mini plug-in system.
